I feel like I’ve seen this episode several times... It must have been repeated a lot.
Hah, no wait, that’s all of them.
But my suspicions are correct. Confused by the lack of Superbowl™, I've jumped on my trusty friend (the Internet™) and found out this episode literally aired after the Superbowl™. I see what they did there…
This, along with the shows biggest cameos yet, made this the most watched episode of all time. I guess this translated into more repeats as well.
Myself, I’m a few weeks behind the Superbowl™. But it’s good I'm mostly staying in sync with the show. Although, given both parts aired together, should I have watched both? It certainly would have helped with my previous problems coping with two parters…
Not much has changed between Superbowls™ then and now. Both have an American Football game, huge advertising deals, and a halftime show headlined by a huge star performer with an equally huge fashion sense. (Then – Diana Ross, Now – Lady Gaga)
After a season and a half, Friends™ is well and truly in the big time, attracting a raft of guest stars and being so popular as to increase the Superbowls™ Ad value.
If only I could say the same for Real Live Friends…
“The One With Too Many Bins”
Despite the guest stars the biggest thing that sticks in my mind here is the return of Marcel.
Obviously the child me cared a great deal more for monkeys than Hollywood movie stars. I’m relieved to see that Katie (who played Marcel) is still alive, and was most recently seen in an episode of 30 Rock (uncredited).
As a huge comedy fan I also took particular note of a familiar sounding balding, monkey handler too.

None other than Homer Simpson himself!
Away from Ross’s quest to reunite with Marcel, we have an attractive man convincing Phoebe to be a children’s entertainer, and Joey struggling with his new found success – when he attracts a stalker.
Hey, why don’t I have stalker?! I’ve been doing this for a year and half now! The least I could hope for would be a little bit of obsession. The closest I’ve got to a stalker is my partner.
Does it bother anyone I continually refer to my partner as “my partner”?
I only ask because the other day I had a long discussion with Joey Number 1 about this. I thought it was a pretty normal thing to call your significant other (other than, say, “significant other”). But both Joey No. 1 and my partner disagreed. After arguing over the pros and cons for a while (“Partner” = people could think you’re gay. “Boyfriend/Girlfriend” = You sound sixteen.) I decided to get some backup and asked my David the Science Guy:
“Well, I guess now we can just say fiancé”
Of course the scientist would sit on the fence…
Getting desperate, I took a huge punt:
“Hey, Chandler Number 2, boyfriend and girlfriend or partner?”
The look on Joey No. 1s face upon discovering their own “partner” was on my side will stay with me for a while…
Friends™ Joey, too, has egg on his face (well, water…) after the Friends™ solve his stalker problem by acting out a soap opera ending of their own. It’s a neat joke but really when was the last time you and your Real Live Friends sat around just drinking water?
Anyway, the door slams and we’re left to wait till next time for the big cameos.
Until the credits roll:
Guest Starring: Dan Castellaneta, Chris Isaak, and Brooke Shields.
Bloody hell how did I not notice those two!?

Real Live Sitcom Moment:
Due to some neighbourhood thieves (or eager recyclers) we’ve been struggling again with a distinct lack of bins.
After waiting several weeks for our landlord to order new ones, I opened the door this morning to find our problem has been solved. Thanks to the timely intervention of Storm Doris, our drive-way was absolutely littered (pun intended) with a mountain of wheely bins.
