From 2nd October 2026, all streaming platforms will be massively improved by the addition of ‘Webs We Weave’, the debut EP from Pterosaur, a new musical project comprised of Musicians / Comedians: Dylan Dodds & Matt Smith.
Dylan, ex-Hanowar (BloodStock) / ex-Holy '57 (as heard on Made in Chelsea & EastEnders), and Matt, ShitStorm (Musical Comedy Award Finalists) met on the comedy scene and realised they had a shared passion for hard-hitting splenetic metal music.
They set about creating a more serious project which avoids the boundaries of the ever increasing number of sub-genres plaguing metal. And now have a host of progressive blackened thrashy tracks with a focus on songwriting and the unexpected. Key influences include Mastodon, Devin Townsend, Rolo Tomassi, Tool, Deftones, System of a Down, and Mike Patton.
The EP comprises four tracks:
1. Oh, the Webs We Weave
The lead single accompanied by a new music video produced by Alt Verve Media. A jaunty track about the perils of mobile phone addiction and the way the modern world traps us. Or possibly about being stalked by a giant spider. We're not really sure. Combines the tunefullness of Iron Maiden with a Djent rhythm over a disco beat.
2. Beware the Cockerel
The bands debut. This doomy slice of blackened metal retells the story of Nosferatu from the Beast's perspective, as Pterosaur invite you to lay with him deep “within the darkest pit”. One filled with blood, plague, and/or terror. Alongside Dylan’s crushing drums, and Matt’s, equally crushing, guitars, the track features a guest appearance by Kent-based Dungeon Synth artist Resinator (“some of the sickest music you’ll ever hear” – Toilet Ov Hell). It is accompanied by a music video made from clips of the original, classic, 1922 Nosferatu film.
3. Ember
A Mastodon inspired 3 minute thrashy freakout, with Matt's gruff and emotive vocals taking centre stage and Dylan going wild on the drums.
4. Tendrils Flail (Had Enough?)
The first track the band wrote. A mission statement shifting chaotically from one section to the next, shouts and screams give way to reverb drenched vocals as samples, grooves, and hectic fills take you through a host of metal genres. You're never quite sure if you're battling a legendary sea creature, or perhaps yourself.
Dylan: "I've been wanting to go back to my metal roots for several years now, and the chemistry when Matt and I got in the studio was amazing. The music came pouring out of us and within six months we had enough tracks to hit the road and quickly realised we were onto something special. The original intention was to write and find more members, but we immediately realised that by sharing the vocal duties we could get a big enough sound that it worked with just the two of us."
Since forming they've played alongside comedy/metal legend Andrew O'Neill's Meltzer, on the metal stage at long running music festival Balstock, and came first in their heat of the “Metal to the Masses” competition for unsigned bands to win a place at Bloodstock. (Before tragically dropping out of the competition due to being on holiday during the next round.)
The self-produced EP will be available for digital download via Bandcamp (£5+), and streaming on all major platforms.
